The goal of providing Mental Health Workshops/Trainings is to help educate our campus community mental health issues; empower them to utilize helping skills and proactive wellness practices; reduce the stigma towards mental health through promotion of  a community of care;  and introduce resources for mental health to the UCR community.  Questions about trainings or to request a presentation or workshop?   • Know the Signs Suicide Awareness & Prevention (Available In-Person or Virtually)
    Know the Signs - Suicide Awareness & Prevention Training

    This is a 90-minute to two-hour training. This training is in collaboration with Riverside University Health System (RUHS) and focuses on understanding how to recognize warning signs of suicide, how to find the words to have a direct conversation with someone in crisis, and where to find professional help and resources. It is available virtually or in-person.

  • Recognizing and Responding to Distressed Students (Available In-Person or Virtually)
    Recognizing and Responding to Distressed Students

    Participate in a 90-minute “Recognizing and Responding to Distressed Students” training.

    • Review symptoms of distress.
    • Recognize distressed and disruptive behaviors and appropriate responses.
    • Learn about UCR and other resources that can help both the student-in-need and you.
    • Participate in an interactive learning experience.

  • Intro to CAPS and Mental Health Resources (Available In-Person or Virtually)
    Intro to CAPS and other Mental Health Resources

    Introduction to CAPS is a brief overview of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). This is a brief (typically 15-20 minute) presentation designed for students, faculty, staff, student organizations and campus partners who want to learn more about CAPS services and how to access them. This training also includes mental health resources available to the UCR community.

  • CAPS Connect to Basic Helping (Available In-Person or Virtually)
    CAPS Connect to Basic Helping Skills

    CAPS Connect is a training designed for student leaders and campus partners who want more in-depth skills for responding to students in distress. The goal of this training is to help participants develop basic helping skills to engage students, assess signs of distress, increase help-seeking behaviors and connect students to various campus resources, including CAPS.

  • Kognito- FREE ONLINE Mental Health Crisis Training

    At-Risk Kognito (FREE for students, staff, & faculty)

    Free online 30-minute simulation through Kognito to:

    • Help increase your knowledge and awareness of mental health and suicide.
    • Learn how to talk with a student who may be in distress.
    • Connect a student with mental health resources.
